Correctly separating paper: 10 rules to follow

Correctly separating paper and cardboard ensures more efficient recycling, and consequently less waste. Many mistakes are usually made during collection, but really it is not difficult to separate them, all you have to do is follow 10 easy rules:

  1. Do not put in paper and cardboard contaminated by foods, as they can compromise correct recycling. It is always good practice to rinse containers to eliminate any food residue, or to separate dirty parts, such as the part of the cardboard that has been in contact with pizza.
  2. As much as possible, separate paper and cardboard from non-cellulose materials such as metal, adhesive tape or plastic film.
  3. Do not put in used tissue handkerchiefs, they are very resistant and difficult to recycle.
  4. Do not put in cash register receipts, they are made of thermal paper and can also create problems during recycling.
  5. Do not put in the wrapping paper from ham, cheese, etc., or greaseproof paper in general.
  6. Bonded items made mostly of paper, such as drink cartons, can be put in the paper and cardboard collection, whereas bonded items made mostly of other materials must be put in the separate waste container corresponding to the prevalent material (plastic or metals).
  7. Do not throw paper away in a plastic bag.
  8. Always fold cardboard before disposing of it.
  9. Do not leave paper or cardboard outside the collection container.
  10. If you have any doubts, always follow the instructions provided by your own Municipality or by the separate waste collection operator.
