The future of sustainable cities takes the stage at Ecomondo

ecomondo

The 18th edition of Ecomondo, the International Fair for the Recovery of Material and Energy and for sustainable development, began on 5 November and will close tomorrow in Rimini. Year after year, this event has proved to be the most important fair on green economy, eco-innovation, and the transformation of waste into a resource.

Participating in the event are the most important companies and the best projects that have made sustainability their core value. Among the initiatives proposed at this edition, the Sustainable City certainly plays a leading role. The City of Intelligent Networks aims to show solutions, technologies and projects which, thanks to their ability to put the citizen in the centre of development, allow innovation even in this time of economic crisis. At Ecomondo, a layout using original forms and materials has been proposed, defining an urban model that is able to combine and integrate protection of the environment, energy efficiency and economic sustainability. The aim of the Intelligent Cities, so dear also to Europe, is to improve the quality of life of the people who live there, especially as regards medium-sized towns which account for almost 40% of the total European urban population.

Ecomondo 2014 aims to reach and exceed the fantastic numbers it achieved last year, with as many as 93,125 visitors. It is an ambitious aim, but the more than 100 thousand square metres of the exhibition and the 16 pavilions, as well as a full schedule of meetings and seminars, will be excellent reasons for attracting operators in the sector to the fair.

So the fair is once again confirmed as an important moment for raising the awareness of eco-innovation, respect for the environment and recycling, to remind everyone that we live in an environment rich in precious resources that must be preserved.
